Who Are We? – Foster Parents

Aaron and Jewell were partners first, and now, together, are foster parents. This blog documents their journey from the beginning to now.

Aaron

As you read this, Aaron is 31, professionally a Civil Engineer, and personally a foster parent, no a parent .  Aaron was raised in Portland, Oregon.  Aaron attended Portland Public Schools through high school, and graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Civil Engineering.  He loves Portland and all it has to offer. He has a passion for soccer, including supporting The Portland Timbers, playing on multiple soccer teams, and watching European soccer early in the mornings on weekends.  When not working or doing something related to soccer, Aaron enjoys running, hiking, biking and weight lifting, which has the benefit to allow him to sample delicious IPAs at the wonderful breweries in Oregon.  Aaron was raised by his Mom and Dad in Northeast Portland, and has a brother, 7-years younger than him. His Mom is a teacher, his Dad is an entrepreneur and business owner, while his brother is a Mechanical Engineering.

Jewell

At the time of this reading, Jewell is 30 and works at a Community Center, is a parent, but some people say a foster parent.  Jewell was raised in Portland, Oregon. Jewell was homeschooled by her Mom until middle school, when she then attended a private Christian school, and then completed high school at a Portland Public School. After high school, Jewell attended Oregon State University and Portland State University, received her AA from Portland Community College, and graduated from cosmetology school, receiving her cosmetology license.  She enjoys hiking and biking with Aaron, as well as sampling IPAs with Aaron and friends.  She is an avid crafter, and keeps her hands occupied by knitting and crocheting.  Jewell was raised by her Mom in North East Portland, and has three siblings, and two half siblings, all younger.  Her Mom is a healthcare professional, and also provides in-home care for Jewell’s mentally delayed Uncle.  Her siblings all live in the Portland Metro Area and are pursuing various careers of their own.  They have a very close-knit family.

Aaron and Jewell met Freshman year of high school in P.E, and began dating shortly after that.  Since they met so early in life, they share a lot of mutual friends and have a very strong support group because of that.  After years of dating, Aaron proposed to Jewell on her 22nd birthday, and they were married that summer in Jewell’s childhood backyard in front of 200+ family members and friends.  At the time of this writing, Aaron and Jewell have just celebrated their 8th anniversary, live in inner Portland, have a tiny dog named Salty, an affectionate cat named Captain, a couple of fish, and a home open to children in need.
