Helping children and families has always been something I care deeply about. When I was young I decided that if I were to become a mom I wanted to try adoption. I have always had a hard time understanding why we have so many orphans in the world when there are so many people in the world who want kids. As I have gotten older I see both sides of this issue.

Aaron and I finally felt like we were at a point in our lives where we could afford to take care of a child. We have no bio-kids yet and wanted to make a real difference in the lives of children now, so we decided we would go to a foster care orientation class. We learned about the crisis in Oregon and the lack of homes and beds for Oregon’s most vulnerable children. It was scary, it was sad, and I knew I needed to do something. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t asking Aaron to do anything he didn’t want to do, so after the class I nervously asked him his thoughts. He told me he was willing to try and he wasn’t scared off yet. This answer shocked me, he seemed so ready, was I? Probably not, but we jumped right in and never looked back.

You’re doing a beautiful thing. I work as a Guidance Counselor and know first hand the need. I’m also a children’s author and my latest book, Gloria and the Unicorn, touches on this topic. myBook.to/GATU
Thank you! I will definitely check it out. One of our kiddos has a TBI and a large scar as a result, this book sounds great!
